About

My name is Jesse Murray and I am a first year student registered in Public Relations at Mount Saint Vincent University. I am a passionate person, and have many interests. These interests range from photo journalism to social justice awareness to event planning. Since I have just finished my first year of university, and am only 19 years old, I still have many goals I wish to accomplish.

In respect to experience, I am still gaining. I was Art Rep on my student council in my senior year of high school, and during this time I created an art club, ran it weekly, and organized an event at the end of the year to showcase the members’ talents. Throughout my time holding this position, I posted monthly updates to a bulletin board in which displayed an “Artist of the Month”, and wrote an announcement for each Artist. Along with these responsibilities, I assisted in regular council duties including: decorating for events, handling money, creating advertisements, promoting events, volunteering hours of my time each week to organizing, handling my delegated job, representing the school appropriately, and more.

From this experience I learned that I am meant to be organizing events, managing programs, and promoting. This is why in the future I hope to help curate and engage people in the arts. I have always loved the arts, whether it be visual, performing, written, etc.. The expression of human emotion and experience is important and I believe it deserves an audience.

Since I have my French certificate, and am fluent in French, I am able to do this in another language. I am also taking Spanish which should help me widen my opportunities on a global scale. I have received a Spanish Embassy Prize, due to my dedication and growth in regards to the Spanish language.

I have completed an interesting job-shadowing opportunity at Halifax Partnerships, where I shadowed their Communications Specialist, Brittany Warren. From this experience, I acquired a real idea of what communications could lead to and a lot of advice on holding the position. I was able to assist in editing an article for their website, and gain aid in networking.

From May to August of 2018 I was the Festival and Events Coordinator at Village on Main Community Improvement District Association. This CID is for the area around/including the Main Street and Tacoma Drive area of Dartmouth. I planned a number of events for the community and local businesses on behalf of the association. These events included the Parade and Festival in Tribute to Veterans and Those Who Serve, the Clean Sweep, and the Annual General Meeting. I also planned a few of our event appearances such as Switch (Downtown Dartmouth Fair), and the Great East Dartmouth BBQ (a festival hosted by the Boys and Girls Club/Area’s Community Centre). These events gave me the chance to network quite a bit and practice my organizational skills. Here is a link to my profile on their website.

Someday I will achieve great things due to my ambition, in some way I will incorporate my love for the arts within my lifestyle and career. I love to draw, paint, take photos, write, and tell stories. I dabble in a variety of mediums and am a people-person. People inspire me and somehow, I hope to inspire people. I plan to cultivate a strong network of creative individuals who want to create and exhibit special talents and pieces on a major scale.

I have always aspired to travel and ignite passions across the world, maybe by starting a successful magazine focusing on current events and art, or writing one large compilation of journals detailing my travels and experiences. Either way I plan to lead and engage other passionate people.
